Below is a list of terms, as generic as possible, used in the field of trick-taking games.
I found several references online, but most are specific to a single game.
Here instead I wanted to be as general as possible.
It is a work in progress that will be periodically updated.
Teams are known (e.g., formed at the start of the game)
Hidden
The teammate is unknown (e.g., whoever holds a specific declared card)
Single
Each player plays for themselves
Solitaire
Although most trick-taking games are multiplayer, this option is sometimes possible
Deck composition
How cards can be divided and classified. Usually each card can be identified by suit and rank, but other possibilities exist
Suit
Category of cards (hearts, clubs, diamonds, spades)
Rank
Order of the cards within the same suit (e.g., Ace before or after the King)
Trump
Dominant suit that beats all others
Master Card
Highest card not yet played of a suit
Special Cards
Cards with special meaning or effect
Dealer
The one who deals the initial hand. May be related to the player who leads the first card of the trick
Hand
Cards dealt to each player at the beginning of a round
With or without drawing
Cards may be drawn or assigned only once
With or without exchange
There may be an exchange of cards between players. (Generally, if present, it occurs before the first hand)
Trick
Game phase in which each player plays one or more cards ("a round"). Several tricks form a round. The number of rounds that make up a game may be predetermined or linked to the Winning Conditions
Card play
Rules that make a card play legal, along with related terminology
Follow suit
Obligation to play a card of the same suit if possible
Void
Having no legal cards of the required suit.
Trumping
Playing a trump card
Lead
Playing the last remaining master card
Winning Card
Highest remaining card in play of a suit
Lone Card
Playing the last non-master card
Out-of-turn play
Some games allow playing a combination of cards outside your turn
Declaration
Part of the game after the cards are dealt by the Dealer and before the first card is played
Announce
Declare a combination of cards to score points.
Declare the Trump
Declare which suit is the Trump for that round.
Declare number of tricks
Declare the minimum/maximum number of tricks needed for victory. May occur through an auction
Call the partner’s card
The player holding the declared card is on the declarer’s team

How points are assigned, excluding possible bonuses
